Quick Tip!
Setting your ignition timing to 14 degrees (normally 10 degrees) will give you some extra low-end torque and better acceleration response.

cheep mods
Bodykits/Styling olly writes "This is just a note to say thanks to MX5-MODS for providing this service and all the members’ top tips that have been invaluable to me as I have been modifying my MK1. So in return I have some advice that I hope will help others. First never underestimate your local scrap yard I got lucky I found a new “less the front end” MK2 with silver air vent surrounds and MX5 door cills and with a bit of care these can be modified to fit the MK1 and the total price was less that £50 not bad next was Halfords they gave me all four ferono brake disks and pads for £133 “very cheep” and a silver gear stick surround £20. Last but not least a new hood £195 from www.carhoods.com and fitted it myself with help from a friend against the advice of the local garage it now look the dogs. so thats it good look to you all."

No Fog Lights!
Bodykits/Styling Anonymous writes "To clean up the line of your MX5's rear end, beg, borrow or steal a eunos boot lid. This has a third, central brake lamp. Uprate the bulb and wire this brake lamp as your FOG light. Then you can chop the ugly lamp OFF! The MX5 was never meant to have this and looks a lot happier without it. Dave S."

17 inch Alloys
Bodykits/Styling amitchell36 writes "I have fitted a set of 17 inch TSW Evo R alloys to my mk1 Eunos. They bolted on with no problem and fill the arches nicely. I am running 205/40/17 tyres. There is no rubbing on the bodywork, however I do try to avoid big bumps, just in case. "

What's involved in adding running lights....?
Bodykits/Styling We take a quick look at installing running lights. Full story soon. In order to fit the bulbs for the running lights some cutting to the grey plastic backing is required, as shown.

Rob fitted the front air dam and rear skirt himself...
Bodykits/Styling This is his experience of fitting it.

Fitting time:

1 hour for front with extra pair of hands and 1 hour for rear on my own, about 4 hours of careful trimming to re-fit the rear mud flaps though.

Low Profile Headlight Conversion Kit For Mk 1
Bodykits/Styling This low profile headlight kit conversion on the Mk1 looks absolutely fantastic!

The owner of this lovely car actually did the light conversion himself although we have limited details at this time.

The cost of this project was approximately £300

Twin Headlight Conversion
Bodykits/Styling "Here you can see my pride and joy a 1.8iS MK2 UK MX5. I've done a number of the 'standard' changes to the interior like chrome vent rings and the like but the most significant change to date must be my new headlights!

Illuminated Side Reflectors
Bodykits/Styling Illuminated side markers. Simple modification to the bumper mounted reflectors; in Canada, and on some Roadsters, these are wired up to the side lights. Drill out and shape the blank to take a couple of twist-n-turn sidelight bulb holders from Mazda (for the impoverished, numerous other kinds of bulb holders can be found at Maplins etc).
